Our Rug Cleaning Process

1. Dust removal

We begin by removing as much dust as possible from the rug before any cleaning takes place.

2. Assessment and cleaning

We determine the best approach based on your rug's type, fibre, and dye. Each rug is cleaned thoroughly, top and bottom, with extra attention given to any stained areas.

3. Water extraction

A machine gently removes around 80% of the water from the rug, protecting its structure and fibres.

4. Drying

Rugs are hoisted in a dedicated drying room and dried completely using fans before being returned to your home. Nothing leaves our care until it is fully dry.

Rug Cleaning FAQs

How do I know if my rug needs cleaning?

There are a few signs to look out for. Visible marks or stains are the most obvious, but also watch for an unpleasant odour, dust trails when walking over the rug, allergy symptoms in your household, or a noticeable loss of colour or vibrancy. If you wear outdoor shoes inside or have pets at home, more frequent cleaning is generally a good idea.

How much does rug cleaning cost in Toronto?

Pricing depends on the type of rug and the method required. Please get in touch and we will provide a quote based on your specific rug.

Why should I have my rug professionally cleaned?

Household cleaning products are often either too weak to do the job properly or too harsh for delicate fibres, and the wrong approach can cause lasting damage. Professional cleaning gives your rug the best chance of coming back fresh and undamaged. At Lashar, we have decades of experience working with all rug types, including handmade Persian and Afghan rugs, and we treat every piece with the attention it deserves.

How long does it take to clean a rug?

The cleaning process typically takes between 2 and 6 hours depending on the size, material, and condition of the rug. Drying time may extend this, particularly for thicker or hand woven pieces. We will always aim to return your rug as promptly as possible, clean and completely dry.

How often should I have my rug professionally cleaned?

It depends on how and where the rug is used. As a general guide, rugs in high traffic areas benefit from a professional clean every 6 to 12 months, while those in moderate traffic areas are well served by a clean every 12 to 18 months. Rugs in low traffic areas can typically go up to two years between cleans. If you have pets or anyone in your home has allergies, more frequent cleaning is worth considering.

Does vacuuming clean a rug?

Regular gentle vacuuming is a great habit and helps maintain your rug between professional cleans, but it does not remove allergens, bacteria, or anything that has soaked into the fibres. A professional clean addresses what vacuuming cannot.

If my rug cannot be cleaned, can it be repaired?

Yes. If a stain or mark cannot be lifted through cleaning, repair may be the better path. We offer professional rug repair services across Toronto. If you are unsure which service your rug needs, bring it to our Danforth showroom and we can assess it for you.
